Dyslexia South Africa Assists with the diagnosing and management of Dyslexia.
Diagnosis is done via the Stark Griffin Dyslexia Assessment which is compliant with the HPCSA .
Dyslexia is a hereditary learning disorder characterized by a difficulties in reading , spelling and writing.
Dyslexia is a result of a processing errors in the language areas of the brain.
Individuals with Dyslexia have normal or above average intelligence.
Early diagnosis and intervention is key in successful treatment of Dyslexia .
A Dyslexia assessment includes an extensive battery of tests , these tests are done in a quiet environment with the child only.
We prefer to do the assessment at the child’s school so as to have a structured familiar environment.
The assessment takes 90 minutes however a two-hour session is scheduled so that there is plenty of time for brain breaks.
A thorough case history is taken from the parents and after the assessment has been scored by an external moderator (this takes approximately 7-10 working days )who is approved by the HPCSA we will have a zoom call with parents to discuss the outcome and way forward for your child as well as provide the report from the HPCSA approved external moderator.
We start off with a screening test first to ease the child into the assessment process so that we can get the best possible results from your child .
The assessment will cover laterality, directionality, reading, writing and spelling, depending on your child’s age, family history, health, developmental issues that he/she may have and various other factors a diagnosis will be made.
